NIAC urges Trump to rule out nuclear strike on Iran

In its statement, NIAC said that whether the allegations reflected serious military planning or reckless posturing, the possibility of a US nuclear attack on Iran was unconscionable. It said Iranian Americans were again waiting in fear after eight months of devastating war and that the Trump administration was reportedly weighing another catastrophic escalation at the urging of Benjamin Netanyahu. NIAC demanded that Trump immediately and unequivocally rule out any use of nuclear weapons against Iran and said Congress must act urgently to prevent further escalation.

Speaking at campaign rallies, Trump gave shifting accounts of the war, saying in Iowa that it would end soon and by any means and in Kansas that the end was near and that Washington would try to act a little more gently, according to Asr-e Iran and Khabar Online. He also said the only reason the United States had not ended the Iran issue was that he wanted to spare lives, but that at some point Washington would have to strike Iran hard. In separate remarks, Asr-e Iran reported, he claimed the United States had in effect changed Iran's government twice.

The war has also drawn criticism from US political figures. Independent Senator Bernie Sanders said the country was led by its most dangerous president, who started an illegal war against Iran, ISNA reported. Former secretary of state John Kerry said Trump launched an aggressive military action on false assumptions and left himself in a very disadvantageous position, Khabar Online reported, citing Fars. The Associated Press reported that Trump's war policies and rising prices caused by the war and tariffs were threatening Republican chances of winning a congressional majority, according to Khabar Online.
