Iran designates UK navy, air force as 'terrorist' groups
Iran’s Foreign Ministry designated Britain’s Royal Navy and Royal Air Force as “terrorist organizations” and MI6 as a “hostile group,” Iranian media reported, in retaliation for London’s July designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps under the State Threats Act 2026. The ministry said the measures took effect on 1 November under a Supreme National Security Council resolution and accused Britain of providing access to military and logistical facilities during the US-Israeli war against Iran.
The ministry said the designations were based on the principle of reciprocity and in accordance with international law, adding that the British government would be responsible for any consequences, according to Mehr News Agency. It condemned what it called Britain’s anti-Iranian policies as violations of the UN Charter, including respect for national sovereignty and the prohibition of unlawful measures against other states.
Parliament deputy speaker Nikzad said MI6 conducts intelligence and security operations against Iran and that a law toughening penalties for espionage has created deterrence, Khabar Online reported. He said Iran has suffered heavy damage from the United States, Britain and other European countries.
