Mecca Pact officials to meet Iranian officials in Tehran

Top officials from countries in the Mecca Pact are expected in Tehran on Monday to meet Iranian officials for talks on regional coordination, Reuters reported, citing two people with knowledge of the matter who spoke on condition of anonymity. Saudi Arabia is to be represented by Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, Pakistan by army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Turkey by its intelligence chief, according to the report.

Reuters reported that the planned talks would be the first high-level contact between Iran and all three members of the Mecca Pact — Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan — since Saudi Arabia came under escalating attacks from Yemen's Houthis, which Reuters described as Iran-aligned. Saudi Arabia intercepted another wave of missiles and drones on Sunday, according to the report, which described the fighting as an increasingly destabilising element in the US-Israeli offensive against Iran and said Saudi Arabia had become a pressure point in the wider war. The report described the fighting as an increasingly destabilising element in the US-Israeli offensive against Iran, with Saudi Arabia a pressure point in the wider war.
