Analysis: Europe pays dearly for backing the Iran war
An analysis in Responsible Statecraft says European governments that supported or enabled the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran now face its economic and security costs, even as they avoid publicly linking the war to the U.S. midterm results. It cites German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's earlier praise of Israeli action and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's estimate of €127 billion in extra fossil fuel costs, and urges Europe to refuse further support for attacks and pursue diplomacy with Iran.
