Iran court sentences director Jafar Panahi to five years in prison

Iran's Revolutionary Court sentenced filmmaker Jafar Panahi to five years in prison and ordered the seizure of all his assets, semi-official Nournews reported, citing his lawyer. According to the Guardian, Panahi's lawyer Mostafa Nili told the outlet Emtedad that the sentence was five years and one month and was issued in absentia, and that the court also imposed a two-year travel ban and a two-year ban on social media activity. The charges were not made clear; Panahi, 66, won the Palme d'Or at Cannes last year.
