Pezeshkian blames December protests on 'social harms'
President Masoud Pezeshkian said the protests of December 2025–January 2026 were mainly caused by «social harms» and called for rebuilding public trust and addressing people's problems. His remarks came months after the crackdown, with heavy prison sentences and executions of protesters still continuing and no clear results published from promised investigations into the killing of citizens. Pezeshkian did not mention the security agencies' responsibility for the crackdown or the fate of detainees.
