Environmental expert: water shortage does not justify Sajjadrud dam
Rouzbeh Eskandari, an environmental expert, told Radio Zamaneh that water shortages do not by themselves justify building the Sajjadrud dam in Babol County, saying alternatives such as restoring reservoirs and managing consumption should be assessed independently. The project has raised concerns about destruction of Hyrcanian forests, changes to the river’s natural flow and the displacement of villagers.

Eskandari also warned that destroying the natural Hyrcanian forest cannot be offset by planting saplings, and that compensation payments to villagers cannot substitute for their meaningful participation in decisions about the project.
