Egypt seeks Yemen talks as parliament weighs Saudi support
Egypt's foreign minister said Cairo is exploring “every opportunity” to resolve the Yemen war diplomatically, while parliament weighs authorising the armed forces to support Saudi Arabia against the Iran-aligned Houthis. Lawmakers postponed the vote to 26 October and the foreign minister and intelligence chief travelled to Riyadh to deliver a letter from President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi called on Saturday for an urgent parliamentary session to authorise military involvement supporting Saudi Arabia. Middle East Eye reported that any direct involvement by the Egyptian military, one of the region's largest, would raise the stakes in fighting between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis, an increasingly destabilising front in the spreading US-Israeli war on Iran.
